An unofficial post-war report stated,
“Herrington was killed during the night of February 11-12, 1943.  The scout patrol Herrington was leading engaged a strong enemy patrol along the La Souda [Lessouda] to Faid road, (Tunisia North Africa) and Herrington was killed in this action.” (The 2-168 Inf was located on Djebel Lessouda.)
