Hester departed on May 11th, 1943 from Atkinson Field, British Guyana in a B-25, 41-0003 destined for Belem, Brazil.  The plane disappeared leaving no evidence to lead to its position, failing to reach its destination.  Reports of parachute sightings were received, but the search was concluded after 30 days without a lead.
